Vision Tips & Tricks – Part 5 – Reporting Advanced Search

The Vision Tips & Tricks session is typically one of the most attended sessions at Insight. It is attended by beginners, intermediates, and experts who are all looking for easy to remember nuggets of information to unlock the power of Vision. By overwhelming request, I will share some of the tips that I covered in my session.

Reporting Advanced Search:

The advanced search behavior was updated in version 6 due to the migration from actuate to sql reporting services. To access the advanced search, select the magnifying glass icon from the report dialog. This exposes the advanced search pane in the lower half of the report. You can select the data you want, and then click the search button on the right. This will display your selections on the results tab of the search pane; allowing you to export the data to excel for further analysis.

The Yellow Hat:

Select the yellow hat from the report toolbar in order to view report information such as the report query, options, the data source, or the report definition (RDL file). These are handy tools if you are a sqlsrs report developer and need to see how existing reports are built. If you don’t see the yellow hat, just double-right-click the find box label and the yellow hat will appear.
