Vision 7.0 Feature 2: Generic Resource Attributes in Resource Planning

As you are planning your project and the resources that you will need to execute it, you know you need an engineer,  but you are not sure which engineer is available or who to use.  Within the current release of Vision Resource Planning, there is the ability to assign a generic resources to a project, allowing you to set a placeholder for a resource and assign the specifics later.  This is especially key as you plan the project as part of the proposal process, before you even win the work.

What happens when you know you need an engineer, but you need a senior engineer with 5 years experience or with a specific certification and skill set?  With Vision 7.0, you now have the ability to assign attributes to your Generic Resources in Vision Resource Planning.

The Generic Resource Attribute feature in Vision 7.0 allows you to assign attributes to your table of generic resources that can be used throughout all Vision Planning modules. You can use the Generic Resource Settings form in Vision to define a list of generic resources and assign attributes such as organization, labor category, labor code, supervisor, and skill.

The Generic Resource tab in the Planning application allows you to search for one of these established generic categories and then assign it to the current WBS element. After the plan is awarded and work begins, you can change the generic resources to actual employees who are responsible for the tasks. You can also select Include Generic Resources on the Options tab in the Reporting application to list generic resources on various Planning reports.
